D’Angelo Russell burned me yesterday (played only 19 minutes and took 4 shots). I guess I was one game early on that fade call. We’ve got a small 3-game slate on tap for tonight so let’s get to my top fade and pivot.
Kemba Walker ($8,900 FD / $8,500 DK): He has the best matchup on the slate against Brooklyn. He’s going to be one of the highest owned players as a result, but note that he only scored 27.4 FanDuel points against Utah and 13.9 FanDuel points against Golden State in his last two outings and in his last matchup against Brooklyn two weeks ago he only scored 25.8 FanDuel points. Additionally, we could see this game blow out, as Charlotte is at home, where they play much better, and the spread is 10.5.
Damian Lillard ($8,600 FD & DK): He has actually been more consistent than Walker of late, scoring at least 32 FanDuel points in 11 straight, while Walker has failed to score 32 FanDuel points in 5 of his last 12. Lillard does have a pace down matchup against Dallas, but the game is a pick-em and projects to be the most competitive on the slate. Lillard usually goes underowned as it is, but his price has been down of late because he hasn’t had any massive scoring games (last 50+ point fantasy game was on 12/20/16). Lillard also has the “GTD” / “Q” tag on his profile, which will further reduce ownership. He apparently sprained his ankle last game, but is considered probable for tonight. I will definitely be keeping an eye on the news to make sure he’s 100% and not limited in any way.
I am definitely fading Walker for Lillard in GPPs due to the ownership differentials. I am 50/50 right now on whether or not to fade in cash, so be sure to follow me on Twitter for updates throughout the day. There may also be a case to be made to play both in cash and GPPs if we can make it work, depending on what news comes out today.
Recap of Yesterday’s Picks:
I recommended fading Norman Powell, which ended up becoming an auto-fade anyway because DeRozan returned to the lineup. Still, my pivot to Jamal Crawford came through, as he hit 5x so he worked out well if you played him.
